Amigo Motor Lodge reimagines classic mid-century roadside hospitality along Highway 50 in Salida, Colorado. Originally built in 1958, the property was rescued and completely renovated in 2016 by owners Philip and Kaitlyn Sterling, who transformed the aging motel into a stylish, design-forward basecamp. Now recognized as a Michelin Select property, the lodge blends vintage highway culture with a clean, minimalist aesthetic. The exterior features a bold, desert-inspired color palette and a classic neon sign known for displaying cheeky, rotating quotes that welcome travelers arriving from the high-altitude passes of the Rocky Mountains.

Inside the 21 guestrooms and retrofitted trailers, the design balances minimalist modernism with warm Southwestern accents. Guestrooms feature polished concrete floors, custom birch platform beds, vibrant Pendleton blankets, and curated regional artwork. Bathrooms are finished with crisp white subway tiles and matte black fixtures, maintaining a sharp retro-modern feel. Beyond the traditional motel rooms, a fleet of fully restored vintage Airstreams, carrying names like PeeWee, Velma, Merle, Diana, and Francis, are parked in a gravel courtyard at the back of the property. These aluminum trailers offer a nostalgic, camp-style alternative, complete with private wooden patios and access to dedicated, upscale shared bathhouses just steps away.

The communal spaces at the lodge are designed to foster connection among travelers and outdoor enthusiasts. At the center of the property, a spacious courtyard features a hot tub, a large teepee, and a fire pit where guests gather under the dark sky of the Arkansas River Valley. The lobby and check-in office double as a sunlit common room, offering freshly brewed morning coffee, local pastries, and a curated selection of retail goods. Dog-friendly amenities, including a dedicated dog run and close proximity to Loyal Duke's Dog Park, make the lodge a preferred stop for those traveling with pets. By preserving the structural bones of a 1950s motor court while introducing high-design comforts, the lodge serves as a model for modern Western preservation.
