AutoCamp Sonoma, originally opened in 2016 as AutoCamp Russian River, sits on a redwood-shaded property along Old Cazadero Road in Guerneville. The site was previously Spooner's Resort, an old RV park, before being completely transformed into a design-forward outdoor hotel by California real-estate firm Mesa Lane Partners. At the center of the horseshoe-shaped property is the 3,000-square-foot Clubhouse, a striking midcentury modern pavilion designed by Dan Weber of Santa Barbara-based Anacapa Architecture. Drawing direct inspiration from Mies van der Rohe's Barcelona Pavilion, the open-air clubhouse features board-formed concrete, blackened steel, and sealed pine, blurring the boundary between the surrounding forest and the indoor lounge. The interior spaces, curated by Lauren Geremia of San Francisco's Geremia Design, are filled with custom local artwork, midcentury furnishings, and an indoor fire pit that serves as a communal gathering point.
The property features 34 thoughtfully arranged accommodations, primarily custom-fitted 31-foot Airstream trailers developed in partnership with the iconic manufacturer. Inside each bright, wood-paneled trailer, guests find a queen-sized bed with high-thread-count linens, a compact kitchenette with a microwave and mini-fridge, a flat-screen television, and a spa-inspired bathroom equipped with a walk-in shower and Ursa Major bath products. For a more traditional but still elevated outdoor experience, the property offers luxury canvas tents set on raised wooden platforms, outfitted with plush beds and electric blankets to ward off the damp Russian River chill. The premium Redwood Suites represent the highest tier of accommodation, featuring private outdoor areas complete with wood-fired cedar hot tubs tucked into the surrounding trees for ultimate privacy.
Life on the property revolves around the central grassy meadow, a communal lawn where dogs are excluded to maintain a clean social space for lawn games and evening events.
