A historic working guest ranch on the Buffalo Fork River with direct trail access to Grand Teton National Park.
Heart Six Ranch, historically known as the Boggy Bench Ranch, traces its roots to the 1800s when French fur trappers first established a base on the banks of the Buffalo Fork River. It stands as one of the oldest guest ranches in Wyoming, predating the creation of Grand Teton National Park. In 1892, before his presidency, Theodore Roosevelt stayed in a cabin on the property during an elk hunt in the Two Oceans area, a site now operated by the ranch as the Two Oceans Pass Camp. Over the decades, the land transitioned from military lodging for Yellowstone travelers to the Buffalo Valley River Ranch under the ownership of Ma Price, eventually splitting into the upper portion known today as Heart Six Ranch. Currently owned by Eco Resorts, LLC, and managed by the Chapman family, the ranch preserves this frontier heritage while operating as a fully functional working ranch with a herd of over 100 horses.
The lodging at Heart Six Ranch balances rustic simplicity with Western character across its 44 guest units, which include historic log cabins and lodge rooms. The main lodge rooms feature updated ensuite bathrooms with heated tile floors, custom wood furnishings, and views overlooking the horse corrals, the Buffalo Fork River, and the distant peaks of the Teton Range. For a more secluded stay, the property offers private wooden cabins, such as the Honeymoon Cabin, which has a single queen bed and mountain views, alongside larger multi-bed family cabins designed for groups. Guests can watch the daily wrangling of the horses as they are moved through the lower pastures directly from the balconies and shared patios of the main lodge, which also houses a cozy communal lounge area with sofas for relaxing after a day on the trails.
Dining on the property is anchored by two historic venues: the Buffalo Valley Cafe and the Bronze Boot Saloon. The Buffalo Valley Cafe, originally built over a century ago by the local pioneer Beavertooth Charlie, serves hearty American breakfasts of eggs, pancakes, and crispy hash browns, followed by classic lunch and dinner options like club sandwiches and burgers. The adjacent Bronze Boot Saloon features an antique bar originally salvaged from the Demaris Hotel in Cody, Wyoming, dating back to the 1880s. Beyond the dining room, the ranch functions as a premier outfitter, offering guided horseback rides that venture directly into the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the borders of Grand Teton National Park. During the summer, the ranch operates scenic float trips along the Snake River, fly-fishing excursions, and cowboy cookouts, while the winter season transitions the property into a hub for snowmobiling, dogsledding, and horse-drawn sleigh rides.
Book a room in the main lodge for the luxury of heated bathroom floors, and wake up early to watch the wranglers move the herd of 100 horses through the lower pasture. For dinner, grab a seat at the Bronze Boot Saloon to admire its antique bar, which was salvaged from an 1880s hotel in Cody.
