KettleHouse Amphitheater

Montana's only permanent outdoor amphitheater hugs the Blackfoot River with a world-class L-Acoustics K2 system tucked into a canyon of pines.

KettleHouse Amphitheater stands directly on the banks of the Blackfoot River, occupying a piece of the historic Stimson Lumber Bonner Mill site that once formed the industrial heart of Bonner, Montana. Completed in May 2017 through a partnership between Missoula promoter Logjam Presents and KettleHouse Brewing Company, this open-air venue is the only dedicated, permanent outdoor amphitheater in the state. The main stage, framed by a state-of-the-art steel structure, faces a natural bowl carved into a steep-walled canyon of towering pines. Depending on the specific configuration of the standing pit and lawn, the venue accommodates up to 4,250 concertgoers, offering an intimate scale that brings performers remarkably close to their audience.

Acoustic engineering defines the experience here. The venue is equipped with a world-class L-Acoustics K2 line-array sound system, designed to project crisp, balanced audio across the entire bowl without competing with the sound of the rushing river just yards away. Seating is divided into distinct tiers: a general admission standing pit directly in front of the stage, twelve rows of permanent reserved stadium seating, and a spacious, sloped general admission lawn at the top of the venue. For premium experiences, private box suites are situated between the stadium seats and the lawn, providing dedicated cocktail service and expedited entry. The entire footprint was designed by Paradigm Architecture to minimize environmental impact on the riparian zone, with the stage oriented so that the canyon walls naturally direct sound upward and outward.

Logjam Presents operates the venue with a strong commitment to local conservation, partnering with Montana Trout Unlimited to donate one dollar from every ticket sold directly to the Blackfoot River Fund. Because the riparian site has limited parking to protect the riverbanks, the venue runs efficient Groove Shuttles from the Top Hat Lounge in downtown Missoula, just seven miles to the west. On-site concessions are managed by Top Hat Catering, elevating the typical concert fare with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Right next door, the state-of-the-art KettleHouse Bonner brewery serves as the ultimate pre-show gathering spot, where patrons can enjoy a pint of locally crafted Cold Smoke Scotch Ale or the venue-exclusive Bonner Logger light lager.

Basecamp Tip

Pack a warm layer even in mid-July. The amphitheater sits deep in a river canyon where the steep walls swallow the sun long before official sunset. Once the shade hits the lawn, the thermal draft off the cold Blackfoot River drops temperatures rapidly.
