Watch winter storms roll in from an oceanfront jetted tub at this family-owned lodge on the rocky bluffs of Yachats.
Overleaf Lodge & Spa, opened in 1997 by Jerry and Georgia Roslund, sits on a basalt bluff on the northern edge of Yachats, where the rocky Oregon shoreline meets the open Pacific. The lodge's name was born from a happy accident when Jerry Roslund was flipping through an architectural catalog, saw a design he liked, and mistakenly thought the style was called Overleaf, which was actually just an instruction to turn the page for more details. The family embraced the accidental moniker as a symbol of turning over a new leaf. Today, the second generation of the family, Drew and Kristin Roslund, manage the 54-room property along with its adjacent sister property, the Fireside Motel, and a collection of nearby rental cottages.
The lodge's architecture ensures that every guest room directly faces the ocean, framing views of the pounding surf through large picture windows. Accommodations range from the cozy Inglenook rooms with fireplaces to the expansive Grand Pacific Suite, which features two master bedrooms, a full kitchen, and a 26-foot balcony overlooking the water. Many of the rooms, including the Sunset Suites and Restless Waters rooms, feature in-room oceanfront jetted tubs or champagne bubble tubs positioned in window nooks, allowing guests to watch the tide pools or winter storms from a warm soak. Inside, the decor is accented by handcrafted stonework and original paintings by regional Oregon artists, centered around a large stone fireplace in the main lobby.
Breakfast at the lodge is served daily in the lobby, featuring a menu developed by Kristin Roslund that includes house-made gluten-free granola, a rotating selection of egg soufflés, and a signature chia pudding inspired by her travels in Guatemala. Just outside the lobby doors, the historic 804 Trail winds along the oceanfront, following an old county road and indigenous path where co-owner Drew Roslund frequently leads guided interpretive walks focusing on local marine geology and Native American history. After exploring the tide pools, guests can retreat to the on-site Overleaf Spa, a full-service sanctuary featuring a warm ocean-view soaking pool, steam rooms, saunas, and a menu of treatments ranging from hot stone massages to custom aromatherapy facials.
Book a morning walk with co-owner Drew Roslund to learn the indigenous history of the 804 Trail, then reserve a late-afternoon soak in the spa's ocean-view tub.
