Pagosa River Domes brings Colorado's first geodesic dome lodging to the banks of the San Juan River, combining high-design glamping with quick access to the area's famous geothermal hot springs.
Pagosa River Domes, opened in early 2024, introduces Colorado's first dedicated geodesic dome lodging experience along the banks of the San Juan River. Founded by developer Tony De Mille and designed using FDomes structural kits, the property spans a five-acre parcel at 1320 East Highway 160, just east of downtown Pagosa Springs. The site comprises 14 modern, fully insulated domes managed by the boutique hospitality firm Life House, offering a refined alternative to traditional mountain cabins. Positioned directly along the river corridor, the layout was thoughtfully planned to offer privacy from the adjacent town Riverwalk trail, allowing guests to listen to the rushing water from their private decks without feeling exposed.
The accommodations are divided into three distinct layouts: the Deluxe King Dome, the Accessible Queen Dome, and the Deluxe Family Dome. The Deluxe King and Accessible Queen options offer approximately 400 square feet of living space, while the Deluxe Family Dome expands to 441 square feet to accommodate up to four guests with both a king and a double bed. Inside, the design balances contemporary Western aesthetics with practical luxury, featuring warm Pendleton wool throws draped over leather lounge chairs, solid wood headboards, and Southwestern-patterned accents. Each dome is a self-contained sanctuary equipped with climate control, solar-powered ventilation fans, a freestanding electric fireplace, and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower and plush bathrobes. The kitchenettes are remarkably complete, outfitted with a full-size refrigerator, a cooktop, a microwave, and a toaster, alongside a dedicated duo dining set.
Outdoor living is central to the experience at the property, with each dome featuring a private wraparound deck that extends over the riverside landscape. These outdoor spaces are furnished with a freestanding hammock, a private gas BBQ grill, and a gas firepit surrounded by comfortable seating. The location provides immediate access to the region's premier outdoor pursuits, sitting just a two-minute drive from the world's deepest geothermal hot springs in the center of town. For winter visitors, the property is situated directly on the route to Wolf Creek Ski Area, located 23 miles to the east, making it a highly functional basecamp for skiers chasing the resort's famously deep powder. After a day on the slopes or on the river, the domes provide a warm, quiet retreat where the only sound is the steady murmur of the San Juan River.
Request one of the domes positioned closest to the water for the best river views, and take advantage of the private gas grill on your deck to cook dinner while listening to the San Juan River.
