An intimate eight-room adobe retreat in Taos, featuring kiva fireplaces and rooms themed after the town's historic women artists.
Palacio de Marquesa is a quiet, eight-room luxury inn situated behind seven-foot adobe walls on Cordoba Lane, just a short walk from the historic Taos Plaza. Originally built as a family residence in 1910 and later operated as the Casa de las Chimeneas, the property was extensively renovated and reimagined by Heritage Hotels & Resorts in 2014. The design concept, created in partnership with the Harwood Museum of Art, pays homage to the "Remarkable Women of Taos" (the legendary artists, writers, and patrons who shaped the high-desert community during the twentieth century). The property provides a peaceful, secluded sanctuary where guests can experience the rich cultural heritage of northern New Mexico without sacrificing modern comforts.
Each of the eight spacious guest rooms is individually styled to represent the spirit, innovation, and design sensibility of a specific historical figure, including Georgia O'Keeffe, Mabel Dodge Luhan, Millicent Rogers, Agnes Martin, Martha Reed, Dorothy Brett, and Gene Kloss. The interiors feature a refined, classical color palette of silver and ivory accented by vibrant pops of color, hand-woven Chimayo throws, and local artwork. Guests will find elegant details such as brushed nickel fixtures, distressed leather accents, canopy beds, and radiant-heated saltillo tile floors. Cozy kiva-style gas fireplaces anchor the rooms, while the pristine marble bathrooms are equipped with dual sinks, spacious deluxe showers, and plush bathrobes.
Mornings at the inn center around a complimentary gourmet breakfast, which can be enjoyed in the communal great room or delivered directly to guest rooms in a breakfast basket. The chef-inspired menu focuses on locally grown produce and New Mexican specialties, often featuring dishes like green chile strata, wild rice pancakes, and fresh fruit frappes. Outside, the walled courtyard features manicured lawn areas, mature shade trees, and flowerbeds that attract local birds, creating a tranquil setting for quiet contemplation. Guests also enjoy shared access to amenities at a nearby sister property, including an indoor saltwater pool and hot tub, as well as a local discount card for nearby shops and galleries.
Order the green chile strata for breakfast, and request to have it delivered to your room in a morning basket so you can dine beside your private kiva fireplace.
