Ravenscroft Inn stands on a sunny hillside in Port Townsend's historic Uptown neighborhood, an architectural anomaly that brings a slice of the American South to the Pacific Northwest. Built in 1987, the bed and breakfast was designed to replicate a classic Charleston single house, a colonial-style home characterized by its symmetrical layout and grand, double-decker verandas. These sweeping, columned porches face east toward Port Townsend Bay, offering a commanding vantage point over the shipping lanes of Admiralty Inlet and the distant peak of Mount Baker. Guests can sit on wicker chairs to watch ferries and sailboats glide across the water, enjoying an architectural style that contrasts with the surrounding Victorian and craftsman homes of the neighborhood.

The interior of the inn is managed by hosts Pauline Gruen and Brian, who maintain a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere throughout the three-story property. The main floor centers around the Great Room, an open space featuring a massive brick fireplace flanked by comfortable wingback chairs, a spacious kitchen, and a dining area where guests gather. Nearby, a cozy, sunlit library is stocked with books, magazines, and board games, providing a quiet retreat for rainy afternoons. A 24-hour beverage station in the common area offers espresso, loose-leaf teas, and fresh-baked cookies. To preserve the peaceful environment, there are no televisions or telephones in the guest rooms, encouraging visitors to unplug and focus on the maritime views and garden surroundings.

On the upper floors, the inn offers eight distinct guest rooms and suites, each individually decorated and featuring private bathrooms. The Rainier Suite, located on the spacious third floor, features a king-size four-poster bed, a newly tiled gas fireplace, a private balcony with a bistro set, and a luxurious bathroom equipped with heated tile floors, a towel warmer, and a two-person freestanding soaking tub. On the second floor, the Admiralty Suite offers a king-size sleigh bed, a cozy window seat overlooking Admiralty Inlet, a working fireplace, and an opulently tiled shower for two alongside a claw-foot tub. For direct access to the outdoor spaces, the Marrowstone Room on the second floor features French doors that open directly onto the upper veranda, where guests can enjoy early morning sunrises over Marrowstone Island.

Breakfast at the inn is a celebrated daily ritual prepared by Pauline, who draws on her extensive hospitality background to craft a rotating, two-course menu using seasonal, local ingredients. The morning begins with a first course of fresh fruit, yogurt, and house-made granola. The second course features a hot, freshly prepared entree, which might include a roasted garden vegetable frittata served with rosemary potatoes and chicken sausage, a savory smoked salmon and chive scramble, or thick slices of brioche French toast topped with local berries and served with applewood smoked bacon. Dietary preferences, including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, are accommodated with advance notice, ensuring every guest starts their day on the Olympic Peninsula fully satisfied.
