Roseline Coffee

Marty Lopes’s refined Portland coffee roastery serving meticulously sourced, lightly roasted single-origin coffees and creative seasonal lattes.

Roseline Coffee began in October 2012 as a micro-roasting project by Marty Lopes, a veteran of the Portland specialty coffee scene who had previously roasted for Extracto Coffee Roasters and worked as a lead barista and curator at Barista. The name Roseline is a double nod: it references Portland's identity as the City of Roses, and it describes the dark red line that forms down the center of a perfectly pulled shot of espresso, a traditional mark of quality among professional baristas. Originally operating quietly out of a tiny 300-square-foot production space in the historic, brick-walled Yale Union building, Lopes focused on small-batch wholesale roasting with a meticulous attention to detail. Over the next decade, Roseline transitioned from a strictly wholesale project into one of the city's most respected multi-site coffee brands, expanding its footprint across the Portland metropolitan area.

The physical anchor of the brand is the flagship cafe and roastery located at 321 NE Davis Street, which opened in March 2024 in the close-in Eastside neighborhood near Kerns. This expansive, light-filled space serves as the company's roasting headquarters and quality control lab, designed to make the journey from green bean to cup fully visible to patrons. The interior, which was named a finalist in the 2024 Sprudge Design Awards, features soaring ceilings, poured concrete floors, exposed brick, and massive windows that illuminate a minimalist layout of warm wood surfaces, curated greenery, and a signature orange color splash. At the center of the room is a custom-engineered brew bar designed to foster conversation and showcase the baristas' craft. For those looking to see the production side, the roasting area is visible from the seating area, allowing guests to watch the team operate their commercial drum roaster.

Roseline approaches roasting with a strict focus on sweetness, clarity, and acidity, keeping roast profiles light to preserve the natural terroir and distinct fruit or floral notes of each lot. The coffee program features their signature Oro espresso blend, known for its balanced notes of honeyed cocoa, dried fruit, and stone fruit, alongside a constantly rotating selection of single-origin pour-overs sourced through direct, long-standing partnerships with global farmers. The beverage menu also includes inventive house specialties, such as the salted maple hazelnut latte, the Turkish latte, and the iced Oatchata latte. To complement the drinks, the pastry case features a highly curated lineup of local baked goods, including croissants and seasonal treats from acclaimed local partners like Jinju Patisserie. While the brand prepares to open its eighth Oregon location at 2803 East Burnside Street in late 2026, the Davis Street flagship remains the definitive destination to experience Roseline's coffee program at its most complete.
