Sleep in a restored midcentury trailer parked beside a spring-fed pond, surrounded by the organic Rhône vineyards of Alta Colina in Paso Robles.
The Trailer Pond at Alta Colina offers a retro-styled campout on a 130-acre organic estate in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles. Conceived through a collaboration between winery co-owner Maggie Tillman and the vintage trailer restoration specialists at Tinker Tin, this hilltop campsite centers around a quiet pond surrounded by rows of Rhône grapevines. Five meticulously restored trailers from the late 1950s and early 1960s are parked along the water, each preserving its original midcentury footprint and woodwork. Guests can book individual trailers or reserve the entire pond for private group gatherings of up to ten people, making it a popular choice for milestone celebrations and quiet retreats.
The fleet consists of five distinct models: a 1958 Kenskill Deluxe, a 1959 Terry, a 1962 Aristocrat, a 1959 Shasta, and a 1957 Deville. Each trailer is uniquely decorated with period-appropriate upholstery, knotty pine paneling, and vintage appliances, such as the original icebox still functioning inside the Shasta. While the interiors remain faithful to their midcentury origins, modern updates like memory foam double mattresses and Keurig coffee makers ensure a comfortable night's rest. Because preservation is a priority, cooking is not permitted inside the trailers, and there is no heating, air conditioning, or Wi-Fi, allowing guests to fully disconnect and tune into the natural rhythm of the vineyard.
Shared outdoor spaces are designed to encourage slow-paced living and communal gathering. A custom-built outdoor shower with privacy panels, two restroom stalls, and a vanity with running water sit nearby, framed by reflections of the surrounding hills. Campers also have access to a communal camp kitchen equipped with a large wood farmhouse table that seats twelve, ideal for al fresco meals, as well as shared fire pits and stand-up paddleboards for the pond. Stays include a complimentary tasting of Alta Colina’s estate-crafted organic Rhône wines, which have been grown on this family-run property since Bob Tillman first planted vines here in 2005. The camping season runs from early March through mid-November, capturing the transition from spring wildflowers to the autumn grape harvest.
Book the 1958 Kenskill Deluxe for a slightly roomier layout and a plush memory foam mattress. Since cooking is not allowed inside the vintage trailers, pack simple charcuterie or plan to use the communal outdoor camp kitchen.
