Wee Place in the Woods

Unwind at a creative five-acre glamping retreat on Hoodoo Mountain, featuring hand-built treehouses, a communal kitchen, and a labyrinth.

Wee Place in the Woods is a five-acre glamping retreat located on the slopes of Hoodoo Mountain, just outside the town of Priest River, Idaho. Founded as a sanctuary celebrating art, creativity, and community, this off-grid property has earned national recognition, winning consecutive Hipcamp Awards in 2024 and 2025 as the Best of Idaho and one of the Best Treehouses in the United States. The land is covered in an old-growth forest of towering western red cedar, grand fir, and ponderosa pine, with Hoodoo Creek providing a constant, soothing soundtrack as it winds through the property. Guests share a communal space designed to foster connection, featuring an outdoor living room, a fire circle, a dance floor, a star-gazing area, and a hand-laid stone labyrinth.

Lodging options on the property are scattered throughout the cedar groves to maximize privacy while remaining connected to the central communal spaces. The most sought-after accommodation is the Owl's Nest Treehouse, which sits elevated in the canopy and is accessed by a hand-knotted rope and hand-hewn wooden bridge. Inside, the treehouse features a queen mattress and a daybed with a trundle configuration holding two single mattresses, all updated with high-quality mattresses in 2026 for restorative sleep. Another elevated option is the Flying Squirrel Treehouse, while those who prefer ground-level stays can book A Wee Cabin, a rustic one-room wooden structure. For traditional campers, Red Tail Creek Camp offers a creekside platform surrounded by seasonal wildflowers.

Central to the experience at Wee Place in the Woods is the fully stocked outdoor communal kitchen. This open-air facility is equipped with a refrigerator, a barbecue grill, a camp stove, complimentary firewood, propane, charcoal, and a collection of craft supplies for artistic guests. A solar-powered outdoor shower and clean outhouses provide basic off-grid comforts, while the host, Charlon, provides luxury shampoo and organic soap. The surrounding forest is home to active wildlife, with deer, wild turkeys, and the occasional moose frequently spotted foraging in the nearby meadows. Guests are encouraged to bring their own bedding, food, coolers, and flashlights to fully immerse themselves in this rustic, self-contained wilderness retreat.

Basecamp Tip
