Abbey Road Farm

An 82-acre working farm and winery in Carlton featuring luxury B&B suites inside converted grain silos, estate-grown wines, and gourmet breakfasts.

Abbey Road Farm, an 82-acre working estate in Carlton, Oregon, reimagines agricultural infrastructure as a refined sanctuary. The centerpiece of the stay is the Silo Suites Bed & Breakfast, where three connected, refurbished steel grain silos (two original to the property, one added to complete the Craftsman-style connection) house five circular guest suites. Each suite is named after a grape varietal: white wines like Chardonnay and Riesling occupy the ground floor, while red wines like Pinot Noir and Gamay are on the second floor. Inside, the design balances rustic heritage with modern luxury, featuring radiant floor heating, Rejuvenation furniture, organic Coyuchi throw pillows, and ensuite bathrooms equipped with deep clawfoot soaking tubs. A covered porch runs along the silos, looking out over manicured gardens.

Mornings begin with a multi-course gourmet breakfast crafted by Culinary Director Chef Will Preisch, formerly of Portland's acclaimed Holdfast Dining. Chef Preisch collaborates with the on-site garden team to design seasonal menus where ninety percent of the produce is harvested directly from the farm, paired with eggs from the resident heritage chickens. Beyond the gardens, the farm is home to a beloved animal community, including alpacas, miniature donkeys, pigs, sheep, and a flock of Nigerian dwarf goats, several of which are named after characters from The Golden Girls. Guests might find themselves sharing the front porch with Kevin, the resident peacock, or strolling through the organic vegetable beds and orchards that supply both the B&B and the sister restaurant, 82 Acres, in Portland.

The agricultural heartbeat of the property is its 42 acres of estate vineyards, managed with organic practices. Unlike many Willamette Valley estates that focus almost exclusively on Pinot Noir, Abbey Road Farm cultivates more than 16 diverse grape varieties, including Trousseau Gris, Mondeuse, Mencia, Godello, and Grüner Veltliner. Winemaker Blair Trathen and assistant winemaker Dallas Way craft these into distinct, single-varietal bottlings and traditional-method sparkling wines. Guests can walk to the tasting room, housed in a beautifully renovated horse-riding arena, to sample flights paired with custom bites from Chef Preisch. Evenings are best spent on the patio or near the Tool Shed Hangout, enjoying a glass of estate-grown Sparkling Rosé as the sun dips below the Yamhill County hills.

Basecamp Tip

Arrive in the afternoon to take advantage of the complimentary wine pour in the tasting room, and book a ground-floor suite (Chardonnay or Riesling) if you prefer to avoid climbing the circular stairs.
