The Allison Inn & Spa

A LEED Gold-certified luxury resort in Newberg, pairing vineyard views with Jory-soil-inspired dining, a world-class spa, and a deep cellar of Willamette Valley wines.

The Allison Inn & Spa opened in 2009 as the Willamette Valley’s first true luxury resort, the realization of a long-held dream by local philanthropists Ken and Joan Austin. The Austins, who founded the Newberg-based dental equipment manufacturer A-dec, originally envisioned a modest 25-room guesthouse to accommodate families visiting a nearby treatment center they had established. Over two decades, that concept evolved into a four-story, LEED Gold-certified landmark set on 35 hillside acres of vineyards and orchards. Designed to harmonize with the surrounding terrain, the building uses a palette of copper, stone, and wood, with interior colors that mirror the local landscape, from bark and lichen to berry and pear. The resort houses 85 accommodations, divided into 77 deluxe guest rooms and eight suites. Each room is equipped with a gas fireplace, a private balcony or terrace, a deep soaking tub, and a window seat positioned to look out over the valley or the manicured estate gardens.

Art and agriculture define the interior experience, starting with a private collection of more than 500 original works by 100 Oregon artists, curated by the Austins' daughter, Loni Parrish. This extensive collection showcases watercolors, pottery, wood carvings, and glass installations throughout the public spaces and guest rooms. Culinary operations center on JORY, the resort's signature restaurant named after the volcanic, iron-rich clay soil that gives the region’s Pinot Noir its distinct character. Under the direction of Executive Chef Jack Strong, the kitchen sources produce directly from the on-site 1.5-acre Chef's Garden, managed by a master gardener. Diners can watch the culinary team at work from a 10-seat counter at the open kitchen, or book the private Chef's Table for custom menus paired with selections from an 800-label wine list that highlights both Willamette Valley pioneers and international producers.

The wellness program revolves around the 15,000-square-foot Allison Spa, which features 12 treatment rooms, saunas, steam rooms, and an indoor glass-enclosed infinity pool that opens onto a sun terrace. The spa's signature Pinotherapy treatments utilize crushed grape seeds harvested from the resort's own seven-acre Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris vineyard, blending local viticulture with therapeutic body scrubs and wraps. Outside, paved pathways wind through the estate's fragrant gardens, connecting the main building to the vineyard rows and the Allison Meadow. On Thursday evenings, the resort hosts complimentary wine tastings led by local winemakers, allowing guests to converse directly with the vintners who shaped the valley's reputation.
