An adults-only, eco-chic sanctuary in the Guerneville redwoods, featuring minimalist rooms, a saltwater pool, and vintage glamping tents.
Boon Hotel + Spa sits on a historic hillside along Armstrong Woods Road in Guerneville, on land that once housed a local mercury mining community before transitioning into a series of resorts in the late twentieth century. In 2007, local entrepreneur and chef Crista Luedtke envisioned a modern, eco-chic sanctuary on the grounds, officially opening the adults-only retreat in April 2008 and naming it after her beloved dog, Boon. Luedtke transformed the property into a masterclass of minimalist, modern-rustic design, prioritizing sustainability and understated luxury. Today, the hotel serves as a quiet refuge where clean architectural lines contrast beautifully with the soaring redwoods of the Russian River Valley.
The lodging options at Boon are thoughtfully varied, consisting of fourteen individually decorated guest rooms, three seasonal canvas glamping tents, and a vintage "lovebug" camper. Inside the minimalist, cottage-like rooms, guests find custom furniture crafted from reclaimed redwood, Coyuchi organic cotton linens, and Malin + Goetz bath products. Many of the rooms feature retro record players with a curated vinyl selection and mid-century Preway fireplaces that cast a warm glow on cool Northern California evenings. The seasonal glamping tents, available from Memorial Day through September, offer platform beds and access to shared bath facilities, providing a closer connection to the forest floor without sacrificing comfort.
At the heart of the property is a solar-heated saltwater pool lined with Heath Ceramics tile, flanked by a hot tub and an honor bar stocked with local Russian River wines, beers, and mixers. Mornings begin with a complimentary breakfast of local, organic ingredients delivered directly to guest room doors. Guests can borrow one of the hotel's signature orange cruiser bicycles to explore the nearby downtown or head up the road to Armstrong Redwoods State Natural Reserve. The on-site spa pavilion offers restorative massages and facials, while the lush grounds, dotted with an organic vegetable garden and chicken coops, reinforce the hotel's commitment to a low-impact, sustainable lifestyle.
The saltwater pool is clothing-optional after dark, perfect for a late-night soak under the stars.
