The Gold Pan Saloon at 103 North Main Street stands as the oldest continuously operating bar in Summit County, carrying a history that predates Colorado's statehood. Its origins trace back to 1861 when a tented watering hole known as Long's Saloon first began serving thirsty prospectors during the height of the Rocky Mountain gold rush. The permanent wood and brick structure that stands today was erected in 1879, replacing the canvas walls with a sturdy sanctuary for miners, cowboys, and early travelers. Over the decades, the property has evolved through several iterations, operating as a restaurant, a bowling alley, and a pool hall, before officially taking the name Gold Pan Saloon in 1953. In 2017, the Breckenridge Town Council designated the building as a local historic landmark, securing its place in the town's architectural and cultural legacy.

Inside, the saloon preserves its rugged frontier character with creaking wooden floorboards, low-slung lights, and a historic potbelly stove that warms patrons after cold days on the slopes. The establishment famously boasts the longest-standing continuous liquor license west of the Mississippi River, a testament to its survival through decades of shifting laws and cultural tides. During Prohibition, the saloon managed to keep the whiskey flowing by operating a clandestine speakeasy, utilizing a secret underground tunnel to transport and serve moonshine in a back room away from the eyes of the law.
