Set along the banks of Geneva Creek in Pike National Forest, Tumbling River Ranch is an all-inclusive mountain retreat featuring historic log cabins, a newly renovated lodge, and a rich legacy dating back to 1946.

Tumbling River Ranch, located in a high mountain valley in Grant, Colorado, has welcomed travelers to its 23-acre grounds since Ernie and Meezie Keyes established the property in 1946. Situated at an elevation of 9,200 feet along the banks of Geneva Creek, the historic dude ranch recently underwent a two-year, $8 million renovation spearheaded by its current owners, Heidi and Jasen Mark. Reopening in February 2026 to coincide with its 80th anniversary, the property carefully balances its historic legacy with modern luxury. The architectural redesign, handled by Avon-based Resort Design Architects, left the original log-cabin exteriors intact while modernizing the interiors. The centerpiece of the historic footprint is the original 1936 Ranch House, built as a summer home by Quigg Newton, who later served as the mayor of Denver from 1947 to 1955. Newton had purchased the 25-acre parcel from Louise Coors Porter, who held the historic Sullivan Homestead, and the resulting structure inspired the design direction for the entire modern renovation.

The ranch features 21 distinct guestrooms, suites, and cabins, accommodating up to 60 guests in total. Inside the accommodations, such as the Hogan cabin, Denver-based interior designer Nicole White of Carma House of Design introduced a blend of vintage elements and contemporary details. Guest quarters are outfitted with custom furniture made from sustainable materials, Birch Luxe organic mattresses, and sustainable linens by Bokser Textiles. Redesigned bathrooms feature handmade zellige tiles, custom cabinetry, Waterworks fixtures, and living-finish brass, with some units retaining classic clawfoot tubs. Many of the cabins feature wood-burning fireplaces, private porches, and electric stovepipe stoves. Throughout the property, nostalgic keepsakes are integrated into the design, including old cholera medicine bottles salvaged from the town of Grant and vintage farming equipment displayed in the Trading Post.

The two-story Lodge serves as the social core of the ranch, where massive picture windows frame views of the 12,000-foot Twin Cone Peaks. In the dining room, guests gather around communal tables for meals prepared by Chef Alex Calderón. Calderón utilizes an open kitchen with a live fire to craft seasonal dishes, including fire-roasted branzino with shaved fennel, watercress, Castelfranco radicchio, and citrus vinaigrette, as well as tortellini in brodo with duck fat and black truffle, and dry-aged rib-eye with au poivre sauce. Meals are served family-style, reflecting the ranch's social ethos, which also extends to evening campfire singalongs with guitarist Randall McKinnon, cowboy cookouts, and square dancing. Beyond the dining room, guests can relax in a wooden barrel sauna or stargaze from creekside cedar hot tubs.

Activities at the ranch vary by season, with all-inclusive rates covering daily trail rides on horseback, hiking, and archery. For an additional fee, the ranch coordinates off-property adventures such as fly-fishing on Geneva Creek, rock climbing, and whitewater rafting. Winter stays transition to cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice skating. Double occupancy rates start at $1,180 per night during the summer season and $840 per night in the winter, with additional charges for extra guests.
