Hillside retreat overlooking Bodega Harbor. Heated indoor-outdoor pool, bay views from every room, and deep ties to cinematic history.
The Inn at the Tides sits on six acres of naturally landscaped rolling hills overlooking Bodega Harbor, offering a classic Sonoma Coast retreat spread across 86 guest rooms. This coastal lodge is designed in a rustic, multi-tiered layout that maximizes views of the water, with each room featuring a private balcony or patio, high wood-beamed ceilings, and cozy touches like stone fireplaces in select suites. Guests are welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival, establishing a relaxed, hospitable tone that carries through the entire property. The grounds are landscaped with native coastal trees, flowering hydrangeas, Pride of Madera, and wild California poppies, blending the architecture into the rugged marine landscape.
Directly across Highway One, the property’s sister venue, The Tides Wharf & Restaurant, occupies a legendary place in cinematic history. During the filming of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 thriller, The Birds, the original restaurant on this site served as a key filming location for the dramatic boat dock and restaurant scenes. The owner at the time, Mitch Zankich, agreed to let Hitchcock film under three specific conditions: the town in the movie had to be named Bodega Bay, the male lead had to be named Mitch, and Zankich himself had to be given a speaking line. Though the original building was rebuilt and modernized in the 1990s, the connection remains strong, complete with a gift shop stocked with film memorabilia. Back on the hillside, the inn's own Bay View Restaurant & Lounge serves traditional Italian cuisine and local seafood, including the famous Filet Mignon Hitchcock, topped with Dungeness crab and rich béarnaise sauce.
Beyond its dining, the inn features a range of leisure amenities designed for coastal relaxation. A central highlight is the heated swimming pool, which is partially indoors and partially outdoors, allowing guests to swim under shelter or venture out into the fresh Pacific air, complemented by a whirlpool spa, a sauna, and a fitness center. Mornings begin with a complimentary continental breakfast, providing a convenient start before exploring the surrounding coastline. The property also houses 6,228 square feet of event space, making it a popular hub for regional winemaker dinners and gatherings of up to 150 people. By focusing on simple comforts, local maritime heritage, and reliable hospitality, the inn maintains its standing as a grounded, classic base for experiencing the raw beauty of the Sonoma Coast.
Ask for a room on the upper tier of the hillside for the most unobstructed views of Bodega Harbor, and don't miss the Filet Mignon Hitchcock at the Bay View Restaurant.
