Reimagined desert retreat in Old Town. Formerly the rainbow-hued Saguaro, this property is now Hotel Solaya, a JdV by Hyatt hotel with modern Mexican style, two pools, and parkside dining.
The Saguaro Scottsdale, a long-time fixture of the Old Town scene known for its neon-bright, rainbow-colored walls, has turned the page on its colorful past. Following a massive multi-million-dollar transformation, the property reopened in April 2026 as Hotel Solaya, joining the JdV by Hyatt brand portfolio. Managed by Dreamscape Hospitality, the reimagined hotel has traded its high-contrast, mid-century Palm Springs aesthetic for a sophisticated, modern Mexican design. The new name itself is a poetic nod to its sunny environment, blending "Sol" (the sun) with "Aya" (the dawn goddess) to evoke a sense of daily awakening in the Sonoran Desert.
The physical structure, originally designed in 2011 by Stamberg Aferiat Architecture with 194 rooms, now features a sculptural design that plays with natural light and deep shadows. Tonal elegance and rich cultural textures have replaced the bright purples and oranges of the original facade, grounding the property in its desert surroundings. The 194 redesigned guest rooms and suites offer a serene, elevated retreat with custom furnishings, natural wood accents, and private balconies or patios that overlook either the city or the central courtyard. Art-filled common spaces connect the interiors, creating an approachable yet refined atmosphere that feels deeply tied to the local creative community.
At the center of the property, the social scene revolves around two outdoor pools, now known as the Pool at Solaya, which are lined with private cabanas, lounge seating, and a dedicated pool bar and grill. Dining options have been completely overhauled under the new brand. Ella on the Park, the signature modern American restaurant, features an indoor dining room and an expansive outdoor patio overlooking Civic Center Park. The restaurant, which seats up to 150 guests, showcases smokehouse-inspired cooking techniques and a lively 360-degree central bar that accommodates 30 patrons. For lighter fare, the lobby houses Common Ground, an all-day bistro and coffee bar serving breakfast, quick bites, and evening cocktails. The property also includes an on-site spa, a fully equipped 24-hour fitness center, and over 12,000 square feet of versatile indoor and outdoor event space.
Reserve a cabana at the Pool at Solaya during the weekend Sol Social Pool Series to enjoy the lively DJ sets and curated cocktails.
