Tu Tu' Tun Lodge

An architectural riverside retreat on the Rogue River, featuring Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired design, modern mirrored glass cabins, and live-fire dining.

Tu Tu’ Tun Lodge stands on the banks of the lower Rogue River, roughly seven miles upriver from Gold Beach. Originally opened in June 1970 by founders Ralph and Pauline Priestly alongside Herm and Jerrine Ellingson, the lodge honors the area's first stewards, the Tututni Native Americans, whose name for their home encampment translates to "people of the place by the water". The main lodge building draws design inspiration from Frank Lloyd Wright, utilizing local cedar and fir woods, slate hearths, and massive river rock fireplaces. Inside, grass cloth walls pay homage to the Tututni's traditional plant-weaving skills, while the central lounge features a towering stone fireplace where guests gather to share stories of the river.

The property’s accommodations blend historic warmth with striking modern design. The original main building houses 16 guest rooms and two suites, featuring wood-burning fireplaces, private balconies or patios, and Italian linens. In 2024, the lodge expanded its footprint by adding 12 prefabricated glass cabins designed by ÖÖD. These mirrored structures, divided between creekside and riverfront locations, reflect the surrounding forest and rushing water, effectively disappearing into the landscape from the outside while offering floor-to-ceiling views from within. For larger groups, three private luxury houses, River House, Osprey Bend, and Otter Point, offer expansive layouts with cedar-vaulted ceilings, custom myrtle wood floors, and private outdoor soaking tubs.

Dining at the lodge is anchored by Executive Chef Derek Piva, who brings a background in Michelin-starred kitchens to a menu focused on live-fire cooking and handcrafted pastas. Sourcing ingredients from the lodge's own garden, local fishermen, and regional purveyors, Piva crafts a seasonal menu featuring standout dishes like multi-day smoked potato bread and fresh-caught Chinook salmon. Beyond the dining room, guests can relax at the Hive + Honey Spa, which offers creekside treatments, or unwind in the traditional riverside sauna and heated lap pool. Days are spent casting for salmon and steelhead with local fishing guides, paddling the river in sea kayaks, or playing a round on the on-site four-hole pitch-and-putt golf course. The rooms remain intentionally TV-free, keeping the focus entirely on the steady, calming flow of the Rogue.
