WeeCasa Tiny House Resort, established in May 2015 by Lyons residents Kenyon Waugh, Stephen Beck, Jason Malito, and three other local partners, represents a unique model of hospitality born out of recovery. The property sits on a parcel of land along the St. Vrain River that was once the Riverbend Mobile Home Park, which was completely destroyed during the historic 1,000-year flood of September 2013. Rather than abandoning the site, the founders invested 500,000 dollars to construct an overnight resort that would help rejuvenate the town's tourism economy. Originally launching with just ten tiny homes, the resort has expanded to feature 22 individually decorated and themed tiny houses on wheels, making it one of the largest tiny house resorts in the world. Each home ranges in size from a compact 165 square feet to a more spacious 418 square feet, offering visitors a hands-on experience with the tiny living movement.
The homes themselves are a showcase of creative, space-maximizing architecture, with designs that vary from rustic cabins to modern dwellings. Notable properties in the collection include the Gnome Home, also known as the Hobbit House, which features a whimsical circular front door, round porthole windows, and a rustic interior with knotty wood accents. For larger groups, the Sequoia offers over 400 square feet of living space and a large deck, while the Blue Lodge can sleep up to six guests across three distinct sleeping areas. Other unique models, such as the Ski Haus with its alpine-themed decor and the artist-designed Rocky Mountain High, showcase the diverse possibilities of small-scale design. Most of the homes are equipped with fully functional kitchenettes, private bathrooms with showers, memory foam beds, and private outdoor yards. Some homes, like the Pa Dutch, are privately owned and leased to the resort, creating a collaborative community of tiny house builders, owners, and enthusiasts.
Situated adjacent to the Riverbend wedding venue and just a short walk from the iconic Planet Bluegrass music festival grounds, WeeCasa serves as both an event lodging hub and a quiet mountain retreat. The resort's park-like layout along the river provides shared outdoor seating areas, fire pits, and open spaces, allowing guests to gather and exchange stories about their respective tiny home experiences.
