West Glacier KOA Resort, situated on Halfmoon Flats Road just three miles from the West Entrance of Glacier National Park, is a meticulously landscaped mountain sanctuary that challenges the boundary between rugged camping and resort-style luxury. The property began its journey in 1972 when construction was initiated by the Ringo family, eventually opening under the Moomall family in 1974. Two years later, Bud and Norma McClure purchased the grounds, which then featured only 110 sites, a classic KOA A-frame store, and water hauled from a nearby creek for four dollars a night. Over the subsequent decades, the McClure family systematically elevated the property, with their son Greg and his wife Theresa taking ownership in 1992. Under their stewardship, the campground earned its first of many KOA Campground of the Year awards, eventually expanding to include deluxe cabins, a playground, and multiple pools. In 2021, the resort transitioned to new ownership under RJ Shevat and Mike Atkinson of West Glacier Assets, who have continued to modernize the property while preserving its deep-woods legacy.

Spread across a forested canopy of lodgepole pine, Douglas fir, and western larch, the resort offers options ranging from primitive tent camping to high-end RV setups. RV enthusiasts can reserve spacious pull-through sites equipped with 50-amp electrical service, manicured lawns, and premium KOA patios with outdoor furniture. For those seeking solid walls, the property features twenty-eight cabins, ranging from rustic camping cabins with basic beds and heaters to fully equipped deluxe cabins complete with private bathrooms, kitchens, and fresh linens. Families and larger groups often reserve Tucker Lodge, a spacious log home retreat set on a private drive, featuring a large deck, private patio, and an open yard perfect for grilling. Secluded tent sites are also scattered throughout the quieter outer loops, providing a deeper connection to the surrounding Flathead National Forest while remaining within walking distance of the resort's central amenities.

The heart of the resort's communal life centers around its exceptional dining and recreation facilities, which set it apart from typical national park campgrounds. Guests can begin their mornings at the Lazy Bear Café, where trained baristas brew espresso drinks to accompany hearty breakfasts of biscuits and gravy, cinnamon French toast, and the popular Jamming Bear breakfast sandwich. In the evenings, the gathering place shifts to the Bear Garden, an outdoor plaza developed in 2022 that features fire pits, yard games, and live musical performances on a dedicated stage. Here, guests can order craft beers and cocktails from the Bear-stream Bar, a beautifully converted classic 1975 Airstream trailer. For dessert, Scoops Ice Cream Shop serves Montana-made Wilcoxson's Ice Cream, including the local favorite huckleberry flavor. After a long day of hiking, guests can unwind in two distinct heated swimming pools: a lively family pool and an adults-only pool complex featuring hot tubs and saunas.
