Polished Airstreams and modern cabins in the high desert. Your design-forward basecamp for exploring Joshua Tree.
AutoCamp Joshua Tree spans 25 acres of high desert landscape, located just off the main highway and roughly ten minutes from the national park's west entrance. The visual anchor of the property is its striking, 3,000-square-foot Clubhouse, designed by HKS Architects. Taking inspiration from the classic, rounded form of a military Quonset hut, the structure features a raw steel facade and mid-century modern lines that harmonize with the desert's stark beauty. Inside, Narrative Design Studio curated the interiors with a warm, neutral palette of earth tones, textured concrete, and natural wood. The space is accented by handcrafted details from local artists, including custom pottery, a woven leather tapestry modeled after jacket fringe, and a hand-painted mural behind the outdoor bar. Outside, the Clubhouse opens to a shaded patio equipped with misting fans for the summer heat, heated concrete seating for chilly desert nights, and a hybrid plunge pool that functions as a cool dip in warmer months and a heated spa during the winter.
The accommodations consist of 47 custom-designed, 31-foot Airstream travel trailers, along with four spacious X Suite cabins and four accessible suites. Each custom Airstream is a masterclass in compact luxury, featuring light-filled interiors with walnut plank flooring, a skylight above the bed, and a fully equipped HVAC system to handle the desert's extreme temperature swings. The layout includes a private bedroom with a queen mattress, a modern living area with a sofa that converts to a bed, a kitchenette with a microwave and mini-fridge, and a spa-inspired bathroom with a walk-in shower and Ursa Major bath products. Outside each trailer, a private gravel patio is furnished with Adirondack chairs, a dining table, and a personal designer fire pit with a built-in grill grate. For those seeking more space, the modern, flat-roofed X Suites offer a separate bedroom, a living room, and a fully functional kitchen that includes a mini stovetop.
In keeping with the delicate desert ecosystem, the property was built with a strong focus on sustainability. During construction, all existing Joshua trees on the 25 acres were carefully preserved, and the surrounding landscaping was completed using native, drought-tolerant flora. The outdoor lighting system is fully compliant with dark-sky standards, minimizing light pollution to ensure that stargazing remains clear and immersive directly from your patio. For dining, the Clubhouse features a general store stocked with curated pantry items, local beers, and wines, alongside an all-day kitchen serving complimentary granola in the morning and a selection of locally sourced meals. Guests can borrow complimentary Linus bicycles to ride into the nearby town of Joshua Tree, or take part in the resort's weekly programming, which includes outdoor yoga classes, fireside chats, live music on the weekends, and specialized night-sky photography workshops.
Book a Premium Airstream if you want a location on the outer edge of the property, which offers the most privacy and unobstructed desert views. In the evening, grab a local craft beer from the Clubhouse General Store and head to the outdoor patio to enjoy the heated concrete furniture.
