This straw-bale desert sanctuary sits one mile from Joshua Tree National Park, featuring private suites with outdoor soaking tubs and open-air showers.
Sacred Sands stands as an architectural landmark in the Monument Manor neighborhood, positioned just one mile from the West Entrance of Joshua Tree National Park. Designed in 2008 by architect Janif Armstrong, the property was constructed using straw-bale building techniques, a rare and highly effective eco-friendly method that provides exceptional natural insulation and soundproofing. The thick, hand-plastered adobe-style walls create a silent, cool refuge from the high desert heat, ensuring a profound quiet inside that shuts out the external world. Current owners Keith and Kaylee acquired the five-acre estate in 2019, preserving its original sustainable spirit while updating its high-end amenities to blend modern luxury with raw Mojave Desert textures.
The property features two primary standalone suites: the Onyx Room and the Jade Room. Each suite is designed for seamless indoor-outdoor living, opening onto a private, enclosed outdoor patio. These outdoor sanctuaries are the highlight of the stay, each centered around a deep, cast-iron couples' soaking tub and an open-air shower positioned directly under the desert sky. Plush outdoor daybeds and private fire pits invite slow evenings of stargazing, while the interiors are outfitted with premium linens, Egyptian cotton sheets, down comforters, and minimalist furnishings that keep the focus on the surrounding landscape. The layout ensures complete privacy, making each room feel like an independent, luxurious outpost.
In late 2024, the owners expanded the compound by adding Lobo Luna, a private, two-bedroom home named after nearby Lobo Pass, connected to the main property by a foot path. Guests across the estate have access to a shared Great Room, which features customizable mood lighting, a 4K projector and screen, an indoor bar, and a wood-burning fireplace stocked with firewood year-round. Outside, the Sunset Patio offers seating crafted from reclaimed wine barrels and a communal fire pit where guests can watch the light shift across the mountains. Surrounded by native Joshua trees, Mojave yuccas, and desert wildflowers, the property serves as both an intimate retreat and a sought-after venue for small weddings, balancing its rugged surroundings with meticulous, design-forward comfort.
Book the Onyx or Jade suite to enjoy a private outdoor patio complete with a cast-iron soaking tub and an open-air shower designed for stargazing.
