AutoCamp Yosemite

Custom Airstream trailers, luxury tents, and modern cabins set on a historic 35-acre forested property in Midpines.

AutoCamp Yosemite occupies 35 acres of oak and pine forest in Midpines, transforming a former Kampgrounds of America site into a high-design retreat along historic Highway 140. Located roughly 25 miles from the park's Arch Rock Entrance, the property features 102 accommodations anchored by a striking, 4,000-square-foot central clubhouse. Designed by Santa Barbara-based Anacapa Architecture with structural engineering by Ashley and Vance, this two-story pavilion draws inspiration from midcentury modern masters like Richard Neutra and Mies van der Rohe. Rather than relying on traditional rustic mountain aesthetics, the structure uses flat, rectilinear planes, a double-cantilevered roof, and massive sliding glass walls that open to the surrounding woods. Inside, San Francisco's Geremia Design crafted a sophisticated interior using blackened steel, board-formed concrete, and local pine, complete with a custom reception screen showcasing Sierra photography and a curated marketplace stocked with artisanal food, local cider, and grill kits.

The accommodations are spread across the forested property, connected by car-free pathways that encourage a quiet, pedestrian-focused atmosphere. The signature option is the fleet of 80 custom-designed, 31-foot Airstream trailers, built specifically for the property. These silver-shelled suites feature bright, minimalist interiors with queen-size Tempur-Pedic beds, fully equipped kitchenettes, and modern, spa-like bathrooms with walk-in showers and Ursa Major bath products. For those seeking a different experience, the property also offers 15 luxury canvas tents with high-thread-count linens, several freestanding cabin suites with private bedrooms and living areas, and Basecamp suites that pair an Airstream with an adjacent canvas tent for larger groups. Every accommodation has its own private outdoor living space, featuring a wooden deck, a dining table, and a designer fire pit with a grill grate for evening campfires.

Life on the property revolves around the clubhouse and its communal amenities, which include a heated outdoor swimming pool and a scenic roof deck designed for evening stargazing. Mornings begin with complimentary tea and pour-over coffee in the lounge, where guests can plan their day or purchase breakfast items from the marketplace. After a day of exploring the park, the property serves as a social hub where guests can attend seasonal events, gather around large communal fire pits, or enjoy a craft beer or local cider on the lawn. For transportation, the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System (YARTS) bus stops directly at the property's entrance, providing a seamless car-free connection into Yosemite Valley. This combination of thoughtful modern architecture, comfortable amenities, and easy transit makes the property a refined alternative to traditional mountain lodging.

Basecamp Tip

Ditch your car and catch the YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) bus, which stops directly at the property entrance. It provides a direct ride into Yosemite Valley, saving you from navigating traffic and hunting for scarce parking spaces.
