A restored 1930s motor court featuring retro TV-themed rooms with private, in-room geothermal mineral baths.
Blackstone Hotsprings stands as a delightfully quirky sanctuary in the historic bathhouse district of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Originally constructed as a 1930s motor court, the property underwent a major renovation beginning in 2005 when owners Rob and Ralph Stuart took over with a vision of blending deep physical restoration with mid-century nostalgia. Because the surrounding town famously renamed itself in 1950 after Ralph Edwards' popular radio game show, the Stuarts themed each of the inn's twelve guest rooms after classic television programs and characters. Guests might find themselves sleeping under a portrait of Rod Serling in The Twilight Zone room, lounging amid the tropical accents of the Babaloo suite, or relaxing in quarters dedicated to the Golden Girls, Star Trek, or Superman. Each room is meticulously decorated with original artwork, studio photographs, and retro furnishings that evoke a simpler, slower era of American pop culture.
The true draw of the property is the geothermal water piped directly into the accommodations. Nine of the rooms on the main property feature private, in-room baths where guests can enjoy unlimited, uninterrupted soaking in the mineral-rich thermal waters. Across the street, the Lone Ranger Suite and the I Dream of Jeannie Suite offer expansive, private outdoor warm springs baths. The water here is sourced from a massive underground aquifer, rising to the surface at a near-perfect temperature of approximately 112 degrees Fahrenheit. Unlike many sulfur-heavy thermal springs, the water at Blackstone is completely odorless, crystal clear, and exceptionally silky. It is heavily mineralized with nearly 2,700 parts per million of dissolved solids, including chloride, which serves as a natural purifier, and 38 other trace elements that soothe tired muscles and ease the mind.
For walk-in visitors and overnight guests alike, Blackstone provides several specialized soaking options beyond the private rooms. The property features three private outdoor baths, color-coded as the Red, Yellow, and Turquoise pools, which accommodate groups of various sizes and are surrounded by high walls for complete privacy. Indoors, the Wet Room offers a unique geothermal steam room, a rare natural sauna experience in the region. During the extensive 2005 renovations, the owners uncovered evidence of ten original 1930s baths within the historic bathhouse structure, successfully preserving two of these vintage indoor tubs for modern use. After a long soak, the central courtyard offers a peaceful, sun-dappled retreat where guests can cool down in their robes, surrounded by desert landscaping and the quiet hum of this eccentric desert oasis.
Book the Wet Room to experience the rare geothermal steam room, or ask to soak in one of the two historic 1930s tubs uncovered during the property's restoration.
