Jackson Hole coffee roasters crafting organic, small-batch, high-altitude roasts since 1998.
Jackson Hole Roasters has fueled the caffeine needs of the region since 1998, evolving from a beloved downtown cafe into a dedicated, small-batch roasting operation. Originally founded by Stefan Grainda, the business spent over two decades operating out of a historic cabin at 50 West Broadway, directly across from the Wort Hotel. For years, locals and visitors gathered there for fresh espresso and hearty breakfast plates, but the physical cafe closed its doors in late 2021, and the space was subsequently leased to Snake River Roasting Company. Rather than disappearing, Jackson Hole Roasters transitioned to a wholesale and online subscription model, focusing entirely on the craft of high-altitude roasting. In late 2023, local hospitality veteran Gray Powell took ownership of the brand, bringing a fresh perspective to the legacy roastery after years of managing at the nearby Merry Piglets Mexican Cantina, where he first experimented with home-roasting sample bags of green coffee.
Operating without a public storefront in Jackson, the roastery concentrates its efforts on perfecting the intricate science of high-altitude roasting at 6,237 feet. Lower atmospheric pressure at this elevation causes water to boil at a lower temperature and accelerates the expansion of coffee beans during the roast, requiring precise adjustments to heat and airflow to prevent the beans from scorching. Powell and his small production team, including roasters Crislynne Warden and Riley Weinhold, ethically source organic, fair-trade, and bird-friendly green beans from premier growing regions across Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Colombia, Peru, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and Rwanda. The beans are roasted in small batches to highlight their distinct regional profiles, resulting in signature blends like the rich, chocolatey Rendezvous Roast, the robust Moose Juice, and their signature Espresso blend, which combines beans from Mexico, Guatemala, and Nicaragua to yield smooth notes of nougat, caramel, and dark chocolate.
While you can no longer walk into a Jackson Hole Roasters storefront on Broadway, their coffee remains deeply woven into the daily fabric of the valley through partnerships with local establishments. Their freshly roasted beans are served daily at Nora's Fish Creek Inn in Wilson, Persephone Bakery, and the recently opened Café Jackson Hole at 175 South Glenwood Street, which debuted in late 2025 as a cozy, non-alcoholic community hub. For those willing to make the scenic drive over Teton Pass, the roastery has established a close partnership with Art's Coffee Shop in Victor, Idaho. Located at 7168 Highway 33, Art's Coffee serves as the official retail and tasting outlet for Jackson Hole Roasters, offering a welcoming space where visitors can enjoy expertly pulled cortados, seasonal lattes made with house syrups, and grab freshly bagged beans to take home.
Since the Jackson storefront closed, head to the newly opened Café Jackson Hole on Glenwood Street or cross the pass to Art's Coffee Shop in Victor, Idaho, to enjoy their roasts fresh from the bar.
