An upscale, modern basecamp on Main Street with a lively lounge, ski valet, and courtyard pool under Bald Mountain.
Limelight Hotel Ketchum opened its doors for the 2016/2017 winter season, bringing Aspen Skiing Company's signature brand of unfussy modern luxury to Idaho's Wood River Valley. Occupying a prominent city block on Main Street, the five-story steel, stone, and glass structure sits on the historic site of the former Bald Mountain Hot Springs Resort. Designed by architect Sarah Broughton of Rowland & Broughton, the building was envisioned as a seamless extension of the surrounding landscape. The interior design plays with the contrast of light and shadow, utilizing a rich palette of white oak, reclaimed barn boards, blackened steel, local stone, and hemp fiber to mimic the experience of walking through a grove of mountain aspens. The property's extensive contemporary art collection, curated by artist Paula Crown, features works by prominent figures like James Turrell, Ann Hamilton, and Tara Donovan, alongside abstract photographs by local artist Lisa Wood, creating a gallery-like atmosphere that feels deeply tied to the creative spirit of Ketchum.
The hotel features 99 spacious guest rooms and suites, alongside 14 private residences, all designed with high ceilings and oversized windows that frame views of the towering Bald Mountain. Guest rooms are characterized by a clean, light-and-bright aesthetic of blonde woods, pale carpets, and vibrant textile accents. Practical mountain details are woven throughout, including gas fireplaces, wet bars with refrigerators, gear-friendly entryways, and, in select layouts, private terraces. Beyond the rooms, the hotel functions as a highly serviced basecamp. A complimentary shuttle services the River Run base area, Dollar Mountain, and the Sun Valley Nordic Center, as well as Friedman Memorial Airport in Hailey. Skiers and snowboarders benefit from an onsite ski valet and storage room, while summer visitors can utilize complimentary cruiser and mountain bike rentals. An outdoor heated pool and two oversized hot tubs sit in the courtyard, offering a warm recovery spot under the dark Idaho skies.
The heart of the property is the Limelight Lounge, designed intentionally as a 'civic living room' where hotel guests and Ketchum locals mingle around a massive double-sided fireplace. Mornings begin here with a complimentary, hearty continental breakfast, while afternoons transition into a lively après-ski and dinner service. The kitchen centers on a wood-burning pizza oven, churning out hand-tossed pies alongside mountain comfort classics like wagyu beef chili, Idaho truffle fries, and local craft beers on tap. During peak winter and summer seasons, the space hosts frequent live music, turning the lobby into a central social hub for the town. This seamless blend of high-end comfort, functional outdoor amenities, and community-focused energy makes the hotel a natural gathering point that respects the unpretentious, historic character of Ketchum without sacrificing modern design intelligence.
Grab a seat by the double-sided fireplace in the Lounge during the daily après hour to pair wood-fired pizza with local craft beer and live music.
