Mishawaka Amphitheatre sits mere feet from the rushing Poudre River rapids, hosting 1,000 fans for intimate outdoor concerts.
Mishawaka Amphitheatre, known to locals simply as the Mish, is a historic riverfront music venue located 13.7 miles up the Cache la Poudre Canyon Highway northwest of Fort Collins. Founded in 1916 by Walter S. Thompson, a Denver piano tuner and motorcycle adventurer who fell in love with the canyon's natural acoustics, the property began as a homestead and hand-built dance hall that opened in 1919. Over the decades, the venue survived harsh mountain winters and multiple ownership changes, including a crucial rescue in 1991 by Robin Jones to prevent it from being demolished. In 2010, Fort Collins entrepreneur Dani Grant and her partners acquired the property, launching a major revitalization that upgraded the electrical systems, modernized the kitchen, and expanded the outdoor deck while preserving the rustic timber charm of the original structures. Today, the legendary outdoor stage hosts up to 1,000 fans, standing on an open, flat viewing area that ends just feet from the rushing white-water rapids of the Poudre River.
The venue has hosted a legendary roster of bluegrass, jam band, and electronic artists, serving as a rite of passage for Colorado favorites and a cherished stop for major touring acts. In September 2024, electronic producer Fred again famously launched his North American tour with a surprise pop-up show on this intimate stage, performing for 1,000 fans right before selling out Denver's massive Ball Arena. Beyond the music, the Mish operates a year-round restaurant and bar featuring a deck suspended directly over the river. The kitchen focuses on Colorado-sourced ingredients, serving Polidori Sausage bratwurst, Rocky Mountain oysters from Ovid, and local salsa from Amy Lasley's in Fort Collins. To accompany the hearty mountain fare, Fort Collins-based Odell Brewing Company crafts the exclusive Mishawaka Ale, which is always on tap alongside selections from New Belgium and Oskar Blues. During the winter, the historic indoor dance hall and the 200-capacity Spokesbuzz Lounge host intimate indoor performances and fireside dinners.
Attending a show at the Mish requires careful logistical planning, as the winding canyon highway has no cell service and is heavily patrolled. On-site parking is extremely limited and must be reserved in advance, prompting most concertgoers to utilize the venue's mandatory shuttle service, which runs from Fort Collins and a dedicated park-and-ride lot at the base of the canyon. While camping is strictly prohibited on the venue grounds, overnight lodging is available nearby at the Riverside Colorado tiny homes four miles away, or at the Glen Echo Resort further west. For the ultimate concert experience, the elevated VIP deck provides a strategic vantage point above the flat general admission area, offering unobstructed views of the stage and the river, preferred bar access, and dedicated table service.
Book a spot on the elevated VIP deck if you want to escape the flat, crowded general admission standing area. It provides unobstructed sightlines, preferred bar access, and dedicated table service directly overlooking the Poudre River.
