Scandinavian luxury mid-mountain at Deer Valley, featuring Utah's only Forbes Five-Star spa and a legendary three-million-dollar wine cellar.
Stein Eriksen Lodge, established mid-mountain at Deer Valley Resort in December 1983, stands as Utah's premier Scandinavian-inspired luxury retreat. Named after the legendary Norwegian alpine skier and 1952 Olympic gold medalist Stein Eriksen, who served as the resort's director of skiing and lived on-site until his passing in 2015, the lodge blends European elegance with American mountain scale. The architecture features heavy timber framing, massive native stone fireplaces, and rich, warm textiles that contrast with the snowy slopes just outside. With 180 total accommodations, including 120 guest rooms and 60 suites, the property avoids the feel of a generic resort, offering custom Norwegian alpine furnishings, deep soaking tubs, and private decks, many of which are equipped with private outdoor hot tubs.
The wellness experience is anchored by the Spa at Stein Eriksen Lodge, a 24,000-square-foot sanctuary that holds the distinction of being Utah's only Forbes Five-Star spa. This expansive facility houses 16 treatment rooms, including two specialized Vichy wet treatment rooms and dedicated couple's suites complete with private fireplaces and tubs. Guests have access to separate men's and women's relaxation rooms, which feature steam rooms, saunas, and hot and cold plunge baths designed to soothe muscles after a day on the slopes. Outside, a heated pool and hot tubs remain open year-round, allowing guests to soak under the mountain sky while looking out over the Silver Lake area of Deer Valley.
Culinary offerings at the lodge center around the Forbes Four-Star Glitretind Restaurant, named after Norway's shimmering Glitretind mountain. Under the direction of Vice President of Food and Beverage and Corporate Head Chef Zane Holmquist, the restaurant serves refined regional American cuisine with an emphasis on local, organic ingredients, alongside a famous Sunday Brunch. Below the dining room lies Utah's largest wine cellar, a temperature-controlled vault housing more than 20,000 bottles and 2,100 selections valued at over three million dollars. Guests can book private tastings with a certified sommelier in this exclusive space. For a more casual atmosphere, the adjacent Troll Hallen Lounge serves lighter alpine fare and craft cocktails, while the Champions Club provides a family-friendly game room and casual dining plaza.
Book a private tasting in the subterranean wine cellar, Utah's largest, where a sommelier guides you through a blind tasting of some of the vault's 20,000 bottles.
