A dedicated climber’s basecamp at the mouth of Ten Sleep Canyon, offering rustic cabins, orchard campsites, and a vibrant community hub beneath the Bighorn Dolomite.
Ten Sleep Rock Ranch stands at the mouth of Ten Sleep Canyon, serving as the seasonal epicenter for the international sport climbing community that descends on Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains. Established by California transplants and veteran route developers Louie and Valarie Anderson in 2016, this dedicated climber's camp sits six miles east of the town of Ten Sleep, right along U.S. Highway 16. The property is bordered by the rushing waters of Ten Sleep Creek, which provides a steady, soothing soundtrack that helps mask the occasional rumble of highway traffic. Here, the focus is entirely on the vertical world, providing a structured, welcoming basecamp for those spending their days on the pocketed Bighorn Dolomite.
The ranch offers a range of rustic lodging options tailored to the outdoor lifestyle. Guests can reserve one of the 70 designated campsites, which are split between the Front Orchard and the Back Orchard. Each site is equipped with its own picnic table and campfire ring, offering varying degrees of shade under the property’s mature apple trees. For those seeking solid walls, the property features four dry cabins, including the cozy Leigh Creek cabin with two twin beds and the Shinto cabin, which features a lofted layout with two queen beds. These wood-floored cabins are equipped with electricity, heaters, fans, and outlets, but remain dry, relying on the central bathhouse for all plumbing needs.
Community life at the ranch revolves around the central amenities. The main bathhouse is a highly functional hub containing toilets, sinks, four private shower rooms, and a communal kitchen area equipped with two shared refrigerators and a microwave. Nearby, the Social Pavilion and its creekside deck offer a shaded retreat where climbers gather to rest, play board games, or browse the Little Free Library. This pavilion is also the only spot on the property with fiber-optic WiFi, making it a bustling workspace and planning center. An outdoor spray wall allows climbers to warm up or train on rest days, while the on-site camp shop stays stocked with chalk, finger tape, and Louie Anderson’s comprehensive climbing guidebooks.
Pick up a copy of the local guidebook directly from the ranch's on-site shop, then head to the Social Pavilion's creekside deck to map out your projects. If you want to skip camp cooking, drive six miles west into town to the Ten Sleep Brewing Company, where you can grab a wood-fired slice from the Mama Z's Boy Artisan Pizza truck to pair with a pint of Speed Goat Golden Ale.
