Ulum Moab

Wake to desert light spilling across red rock canyons from a luxury suite tent, where private decks look out toward Looking Glass Arch and the wild expanses of Canyonlands.

Ulum Moab anchors itself on 200 acres of high desert terrain 25 miles south of Moab, framing a dramatic landscape defined by 100-foot cliffs and the massive sandstone span of Looking Glass Arch. Developed by Under Canvas as their premier luxury resort, this seasonal retreat (open from late March through late October) centers around a contemporary lobby built with local stone and natural wood. Inside, floor-to-ceiling glass walls look out toward Canyonlands National Park, while a custom chandelier crafted from quartzite stones gathered on-site hangs overhead. The property is designed to integrate seamlessly into its desert ecosystem, utilizing solar lighting, evaporative cooling systems, and dark sky-compliant fixtures that preserve the brilliant Utah night sky.

The resort features 50 safari-inspired Suite Tents, each offering 360 square feet of interior living space paired with a 70-square-foot private viewing deck. Inside, the design prioritizes high-end comfort with king-size beds dressed in Parachute linens, Pendleton wool blankets, and custom West Elm furnishings. Private ensuite bathrooms are equipped with spacious rain showers and premium Aesop bath products. To manage the desert's shifting temperatures, each tent is outfitted with an evaporative cooling fan, electric bed warmers, and a wood-burning stove. In keeping with the resort's mindful approach to the surrounding environment, food is kept out of the tents, encouraging guests to gather in the communal spaces.

Dining at the resort centers around a full-service restaurant and patio in the main lodge, where Southwest-inspired menus emphasize seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast and dinner feature dishes like roasted beets, local trout, and hand-crafted cocktails, complemented by a dedicated espresso and smoothie bar for early mornings. While full lunch service is not offered, guests can pre-order fresh grain bowls, salads, and sandwiches to take on their daily excursions. In the evening, the terraced outdoor patio becomes a gathering point with wood-burning fire pits, complimentary nightly s'mores, and live acoustic music under the stars.

Wellness and active exploration are woven into the daily routine at the resort, which features three terraced outdoor dipping pools (each set to a different temperature for hot and cold plunges) overlooking Looking Glass Rock. Guests can book restorative treatments in the Massage Cave, a quiet sanctuary carved organically into the natural rock formation. Daily complimentary programming includes guided morning yoga on a deck supplied with Vuori mats, sound baths, and expert-led stargazing sessions. For those seeking adventure, the resort's coordinators can arrange rock climbing and rappelling directly on Looking Glass Arch, providing a vertical perspective of the canyon country right from the property.
