AutoCamp Cape Cod

A modernist, mid-century inspired glamping retreat in Falmouth, featuring custom Airstreams, luxury tents, and a striking cedar clubhouse alongside the Shining Sea Bikeway.

AutoCamp Cape Cod brings a modernist West Coast glamping aesthetic to the historic shores of Falmouth, Massachusetts. Opened in the spring of 2021, the 14-acre property represents the hospitality brand's first venture outside of California, developed in partnership with Boston-based Blue Flag Partners. The site planning and architecture, led by the New York-based firm Workshop/APD, departs from traditional New England cedar-shingle design, drawing inspiration instead from the mid-century modernist beach houses pioneered on the Cape by Walter Gropius and his contemporaries. The property features 108 accommodations, including 88 custom-designed 31-foot Airstream trailers, five modern X Suites (flat-roofed tiny home cabins with full kitchens and picture windows), and ten seasonal luxury canvas tents available from April through October. Each Airstream and cabin suite is outfitted with a queen-size Tempur-Pedic mattress, a private bathroom with walk-in shower, a kitchenette, and an outdoor patio with a private fire pit and dining area.

The focal point of the property is the two-story, 8,100-square-foot Clubhouse, designed to maximize views across the landscape toward Buzzards Bay. Workshop/APD wrapped the building's exterior in natural cedar planks and Okanogan Western Hemlock, contrasted with dark Monogatari Shou Sugi Ban charred cypress. Inside, the design features soaring ceilings, poured concrete floors, and a dramatic 360-degree glass-and-steel hanging fire pit surrounded by custom chairs from Geremia Design and wooden seating by Fyrn. The lounge is decorated with site-specific art, including a ten-foot-tall textured painting by küdd:krig HOME and a custom wooden wall map of the Cape created by textile artist Windy Chien, whose intricate knotting techniques nod to the region's maritime heritage. During the warmer months, massive glass doors slide completely open to connect the interior lounge with a 1,000-square-foot second-story terrace, while chilly seasons turn the indoor fireplace into a central gathering spot.

Communal life on the property centers around the Clubhouse's amenities and curated experiences. A 24-hour General Store stocks grab-and-go provisions, local craft beers, wines, and charcoal, while the onsite kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and wood-fired pizza. A daily amenity fee covers morning granola, local coffee, high-speed WiFi, and access to a fleet of complimentary cruiser bicycles. The property sits directly adjacent to the Shining Sea Bikeway, a paved ten-mile trail that follows a former railroad line along the coast, providing a flat, scenic route down to the scientific hub of Woods Hole and the Martha's Vineyard ferry terminal. For guests traveling with pets, the resort is highly dog-friendly, offering custom welcome kits complete with bowls and treats for a flat fee.

Basecamp Tip

Skip the highway traffic and borrow one of the property's complimentary cruiser bikes to ride the adjacent Shining Sea Bikeway directly down to Woods Hole, where you can easily catch the ferry to Martha's Vineyard.
