The historic, 1957 slopeside lodge at the base of Mammoth Mountain, offering ski-in, ski-out access and classic alpine character.
Mammoth Mountain Inn stands as the historic, high-altitude heartbeat of the resort, positioned at 9,000 feet directly across from the Main Lodge. Founded in 1957 by Mammoth Mountain pioneer Dave McCoy, it was the mountain's very first dedicated ski lodging, establishing a slopeside legacy that has survived decades of resort evolution. While modern developments have risen down in the Village, this classic property has preserved its mid-century, rustic alpine character. The complex consists of three distinct structures: the Main Building, the East/West Wing, and the cozy Yodler Haus. Its future remains secured in its vintage state, particularly after resort operators indefinitely postponed the sweeping "Evolving Main" redevelopment project in 2025, ensuring that this authentic, unpretentious piece of California ski history remains the primary gateway to the slopes.
Inside the Main Building, the atmosphere is defined by stone accents, exposed wood beams, and a communal warmth that modern luxury properties struggle to replicate. The lobby houses the Sierra General Store, a convenient spot for a morning espresso and quick grab-and-go snacks before heading out to the lifts. Upstairs, the Mountainside Bar & Grill serves up hearty American mountain fare for breakfast and dinner, featuring ceiling-high windows that look directly onto the Panorama Gondola and Broadway Express (Chair 1). For après-ski drinks, the Dry Creek Lounge offers a cozy retreat to watch the grooming machines crawl up the mountain as twilight sets in. Accommodations across the property range from simple, vintage-style hotel rooms to expansive multi-bedroom condominiums, including the multi-level Pinnacle Suite, which sleeps up to eight guests and features three separate bedrooms and a full kitchen.
Just across the driveway sits the legendary Yodler Restaurant & Bar, a Bavarian-style chalet that has been a local institution for over 50 years. This beloved spot features an authentic European menu of bratwursts, schnitzel, and warm fondue, complete with a massive outdoor sundeck for sunny spring afternoons and a fireplace lounge where guests can even try their hand at blowing the giant Swiss alphorn. Guests staying in the East/West Wing enjoy access to three indoor whirlpool spas and a heated outdoor swimming pool that offers a steaming sanctuary surrounded by snow-dusted pines. During the summer months, the inn serves as the ultimate basecamp for the Mammoth Adventure Center, offering immediate access to the Mammoth Mountain Bike Park, hiking trails, and the shuttle terminal for excursions to Devils Postpile and Rainbow Falls.
For the ultimate slope views, request a mountain-facing room in the Main Building, and don't miss a post-ski schnitzel and draft beer on the sundeck at the historic Yodler across the driveway.
