Under Canvas Yosemite

A DarkSky Approved glamping retreat on 85 forested acres, offering safari-style tents just ten minutes from Yosemite's Big Oak Flat entrance.

Under Canvas Yosemite, the brand's first California location, opened in April 2026 on 85 acres of pine and oak forest in Groveland. Situated just ten minutes from the park's Big Oak Flat entrance, the resort offers an immersive, upscale outdoor experience that bridges the gap between traditional camping and boutique hotel comfort. It is the first lodging property in California to earn an official DarkSky certification from DarkSky International, a distinction reflected in its low-impact solar pathway lighting and design engineered to preserve the clarity of the night sky. The property operates seasonally from mid-April through late October, providing a comfortable basecamp for exploring the nearby Sierra Nevada wilderness.

The resort features 71 safari-style canvas tents, including 41 spacious suites, arranged along gravel paths that wind through California Black Oaks and Ponderosa Pines. Each tent is designed with comfort in mind, containing a plush king-size bed, heated mattress pad, luxury linens, and a private deck with outdoor seating. Unlike many traditional campgrounds, every tent at this location includes its own private ensuite bathroom equipped with a flushing toilet, sink, and hot shower. For those looking to maximize their connection to the night sky, the Stargazer tents feature a viewing window positioned directly above the bed, allowing guests to drift off while watching the stars. To encourage guests to unplug, the tents are intentionally screen-free and lack Wi-Fi, though they are equipped with USB battery packs, lanterns, and fans.

At the heart of the property is a sprawling main lobby tent, furnished with contemporary West Elm decor, which serves as the social hub for the camp. The on-site cafe-style dining program offers hot breakfasts, grab-and-go lunches for day trips, and seasonal dinner options paired with local California craft beers and wines. Outside, communal fire pits host nightly s'mores sessions, and an expansive yoga deck hosts morning sessions with Lululemon mats. An on-site Adventure Concierge is available to help guests arrange local excursions, from fly fishing and whitewater rafting to guided hikes. For a completely car-free experience, a YARTS (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System) shuttle stop is located directly across from the camp's entrance, providing effortless transportation into the national park.

Basecamp Tip

Take the YARTS shuttle from the stop directly across the road from the camp entrance. It offers a stress-free, car-free way to enter Yosemite Valley without worrying about driving, park permits, or finding a parking spot.
